Obituary of Raymond Harold McNeil, New Waterford

It is with sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Raymond Harold McNeil, 84, on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at Maple Hill Manor in New Waterford.

Born in New Waterford, he was a son of the late Neil 'Hush' and Emerance (Vandenbrooke) McNeil.

Ray is survived by his wife, Christena Kathleen 'Kay' McNeil. Kay and Ray enjoyed a wonderful life together for 58 years. They lived in New Waterford until 1965. Ontario had better work prospects, so off they went. There they had two children, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. They enjoyed camping, square dancing, and bowling. Unfortunately, illness got the better of them and they decided to go back home to New Waterford to be with more family. Thank you to our wonderful families.

Ray is also survived by daughters, Maureen McNeil and Paula McNeil (Chris Grummett); grandchildren, Daniel Crawley, Jayne Crawley, Olivia Bullock, and Natalie Bullock; great-grandchildren, Michaela, Russell, and Ronan; brothers, Peter (Marlynn) and Melvin (Eva); sisters, Rosina (John Doyle), Rose-Marie, and Diane; several sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Ray was predeceased by brothers, Malcolm, Myles (Sharon), Joey (Sheila), and Eddie.

A special thanks to the dedicated sisters, sisters-in-law, and cousins that stayed by Ray's side during his last few months of illness. Also thank you to the staff of Maple Hill Manor. We couldn't ask for a more wonderful place.

There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. A Funeral Mass of celebration will be held Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Camel Avenue, with Father Ray Huntley officiating. A luncheon will follow at the Knights of Columbus Hall, Plummer Avenue, New Waterford. No flowers by request. Donations in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Nova Scotia. Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at: www.vjmcgillivray.ca.
