Obituary of Brenda Marie Murray, New Victoria
Brenda Marie (Tighe) Murray
New Victoria
With heavy hearts we announce the passing of the beautiful and strong matriarch of our family on Monday, May 20, 2019 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by members of her family.
She was the daughter of the late Dempsey and Lila Tighe. She was predeceased by her loving husband Gerald Doyle, her son, John Blair and her brother, John (Diz).
Brenda was survived by her daughters, Lila (Fred) Farrugia, Carol Murray, her son, Gerald Doyle and her three grandchildren, Shayna, Brea and Tanner Farrugia.
At the young age of 17, Brenda lost her mom to a long battle with cancer and became a mother to most of her siblings; Mary (Jim) of Blackwater, England, Gary (Carol Anne), Frankie (Elaine), Patricia (Richard), Marion (Victor), Billy (Tishy), Evelyn (the late Dan), Lila (Jackie) of New Waterford area and Joanne of Connecticut. Additionally, she was loved by dozens of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who meant the world to her, her In-Laws the Doyle Family and her Godmother, Polly Tighe.
Brenda lead a very special life, every day she did all she could to encourage and motivate her family to live their best lives. She sought out every opportunity possible to help members of her community in any way she could. From January until May each year for decades she could be found filing tax forms for anyone who needed a hand. There was never a problem for which she couldn’t help find a solution and a positive perspective. She will be missed dearly by all those who loved and knew her.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. A Funeral Mass of celebration will take place on Friday, May 24, 2019 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Father Ray Huntley officiating. A luncheon will follow at the Knights of Columbus Hall, Plummer Avenue, New Waterford.
The family would like to extend a very sincere thank you to all the staff and volunteers at Maple Hill Manor for the most exceptional love and care provided to Brenda during the last years of her life. Each of you truly went above and beyond and we will never forget you. We would also like to thank the professional staff at the CBRH Emergency Department and Cardiologist, Dr. David McFarland for the excellent care, kindness and compassion extended.
In lieu of flowers, we request that you remember Brenda by completing a random active of kindness for someone in her memory. Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at: www.vjmcgillivray.ca.
