Fred will always be in my heart as my favourite bus driver in Nanaimo, BC and my Negotiator when I ran away from home in 1974. I was on his bus with my belongings and deciding whereI was going to run away to, when he convinced me to stay on the bus and he would take me to his home and his family, he called my Mom and negotiated my term of 1 year of being grounded to 6 months. My Mom and I visited Fred and Frances in their house that I always heard about in 2015 on Arbuckle Lane. It was lovely and so were the 2 of them. We visited a long time and talked about family and friends. I am truly blessed to have him in my life, prayers and blessings to the Family. Love Always Karen

Missing you all! Frances we will do lunch. Our prayers are with you all love and big hugs. See you soon! XOXO
My favorite memory was grade six. During recess Shirley Boutilier let Lorna and I ask Freddy(who was working on the new firehall) to take us on our school trip. The school board told us they had no bus driver. He drove us to New Glasgow wax museum and giant Macscill museum. He went over the Causeway for the kids to say they were off Cape Breton Island. That was very thoughtful in those days. I Had so much respect and love for him! All my heart is with my loving family.

Dear Frances and family,
Harris and I are so sorry for your loss and for the loss of such an interesting and pleasant individual. We enjoyed his visits when dropping off seeds or seedlings. Freddy and Harris both shared a love of trees. His property of trees in a secluded hide-away on his property is one of the nicest we've seen. We will always picture of him there, among his trees.
Sincerely,
Eileen (Morford) and Harris Martin

Frances- I thank you so much for sharing your Fred with all of us in the Signal Corps. He was one of our great characters, and very loyal to our Corps. Although he is gone from Earth he will remain in the hearts of many of us who had the privilege of serving our Country with him. I am sure that when he arrives at the Pearly Gates they will have a brand new and shiny DR Bike waiting for him. Rest in Peace old Soldier and you can "stand easy". V V V

I just wanted to say that I was so looking forward to seeing and spending time with uncle Freddy on our upcoming trip to Nova Scotia. I have only fond memories of him. He always had a smile on his face and a loving hug every time I had the pleasure of seeing him. He was kind, funny and a true family man. He always showed love and concern for my father Bill Shannon and I know my dad had so much love and respect for him. I adored how much he loved his wife and I know this is an incredible loss for all who loved him. I and my family want to send loving thoughts, prayers, hugs and well wishes from out west to all of you who are in mourning now. ..Carri Gauthier

I’m very sad to hear that Uncle Freddie passed away. I have so many fond memories of him, including visiting him in Germany, butter tarts & spaghetti sauce, visits to the shore and especially the Arbuckle reunion. I was very proud that he recognized the military service of the Arbuckle brothers with banners along Arbuckle Lane last fall. And I’m forever grateful for his care and support when my father was at Taigh Na Mara nursing home.
Sincere condolences to Aunt Frances, Heather, Randy, Colleen and their families.
