Although I have not seen Bernice in many years (since I was a child), what my mind conjures up when I think of Bernice was her big, beautiful smile. I remember recently after we bought our piano, Ave and Bernice came over for a visit and Bernice played and sang until we were all gathered around belting out the tunes and laughing. That piano never sounded so good! I was very sad to hear of her passing. I am sure she is somewhere still singing and smiling and bringing joy to the souls around her with that big, beautiful smile.

To Bernice's family,
It was very obvious that teaching was, indeed, Bernice's life's work. I only had the pleasure of meeting her a few times in my life, and never had the joy of being taught by her, but she had a very special way of making you feel like you were the only important person in the room.
We are thinking of Ave at this time and sending our love.
Hugs from Jim and Anne MacDonald

I remember this lady from my Grade 10 geography class as St. Mikes in 1977. She was truly a bon vivant who enjoyed being in the class and teaching sometimes dull facts in a very engaging and entertaining way, I am grateful to her for that and her unique talents. It'so lovely to hear that she has enjoyed such a full life since the time when I knew her. We shared a love of muscle cars and I would laugh when I saw her roaring around in her mighty black Pontiac (LeMans?). We should all have such zest for life. Rest easy and sincere condolences to her family and friends.

Bernice was my grandmother's niece (Mary McDonald McNeil), my father's 1st cousin (Murray McNeil) and my 2nd cousin. I did not have the pleasure of knowing Bernice during her life as I am in Ontario, and for that I am sorry. Reading the tributes to her on this site has been heartwarming and I am so happy that she helped so many individuals during her long life. May Bernice rest in well deserved peace.

Mrs Macdonald was my grade 10 history teacher at St Micheals high school she was always ready to lead her class in a great adventure or topic from historic periods in time. I will always remember that little grin and twinkle in her eye when she knew that she had us captivated when her stories were told during those times in history class. It is this that I will always remember about her to Ava and her extended family god bless.

Dear Bernice,
You exemplified kindness, caring, and joy in a way few in this world can ever emulate. Rest peacefully, and thank you for the love and hope you bestowed on everyone (especially me) with whom you ever crossed paths. The world is better because of your time among us. If only the same could be said of us all.
Most Sincerely,

To the family of Bernice
Please accept our sincere condolences on her passing; she was a unique “one of a kind person” who lived life to the beat of her own drum. Teaching was not a job to her , it was a passion and she challenged students she encountered to make life better for them and those around them. She was never afraid to try something first or to be herself, one of the fondest memories is her dancing at the student dances to get others involved. We were fortunate to know her later in life outside the classroom. She is the person that stands out the most in our memories of St Mike's High School years. While she was a beloved teacher she was a better person. May she have the eternal rest that she so richly deserves,
Rest In Peace
