Obituary of Laura (Watts) MacKinnon, R.N. New Waterford, HFX

Laura Isabel (Watts) MacKinnon, age 89 passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 4th, 2020 at Parkstone Enhanced Care in Halifax. The last surviving member of her immediate family, she was born in New Waterford, Cape Breton on 14 April, 1930 to Edward and Helen Watts. Laura grew up on 13th Street across from the gate to the ball field with 7 brothers and 2 sisters. Laura became a Registered Nurse at the age of 22 and practiced for 38 years until her health required retirement at the age of 60. While working as a nursing supervisor, studying at night, she achieved a Bachelor of Administration in Health Services. Laura is survived by 3 sons, Bruce (Nadell), Kevin (Debra), and Lawrence (Debbie), 6 grand-children and their partners, and 11 great grand-children. Laura was predeceased by her husband, John R. MacKinnon, 2 sisters, 7 brothers and her parents. Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening, January 7th, from 6- 9 p.m. followed by a funeral service on Wednesday at 11 a.m., all in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home & Chapel, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. Deacon Leo Penny presiding. Interment in Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
