Obituary of Brian Whalen, New Waterford

With heavy hearts, we announce the sudden passing of my beloved husband, Brian Whalen, at the Halifax Infirmary. Born in Halifax, he moved to New Waterford in 1974 to share his life with his beloved wife of 47 years, Eleanor (Connors). They had one son, Brian Jr., whom he loved dearly and spent immeasurable hours fishing, hunting and golfing with. He was predeceased by his parents, Raymond and Betty (Henderson). Surviving are his brother, Jim (Jacqueline),White's Lake; sister, Susan, Halifax and brother-in-law, Jim Connors, Sydney; aunts, nieces, nephews, numerous cousins and his best friend, Fred Connors. He served in the army in the Blackwatch in Gagetown from 1964-1972. Brian worked as a Commissionaire at New Waterford Consolidated Hospital from where he retired in 2009.Throughout many of those years, Brian, who was a carpenter by trade, did many fix-it jobs and favours for friends and neighbours. One of the many pastimes which Brian enjoyed, was conversing with people. He will long be remembered for his friendliness to people of all ages and will always be remembered for his many acts of kindness to friends and neighbours! Cremation has taken place under the direction of Dartmouth Funeral Home. As per Brian's wishes, there will be no viewing. Funeral arrangements are incomplete. Donations in Brian's memory may be made to The Heart and Stroke Foundation. Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at: www.vjmcgillivray.ca. May he rest in peace! He will always be missed and never forgotten!
