Obituary of Cst. Adrian McNamara, Glace Bay

It is with broken hearts that we, the family, announce the sudden passing of Cst. Adrian McNamara, age 64, on Wednesday, June 17th, 2020 at home. Born September 5th, 1955 in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Joseph McNamara and Ethel (Gillis) McNamara. He is survived by his wife , Colleen (MacGillivray) and daughter, Brittany of Reserve Mines, who was his pride and joy. He is also survived by his special nephew, Derrick, who he truly considered a son, Derrick’s wife Susan and their beautiful children, Cooper, Porter, Lauren, and Logan of Pictou; brothers Joey (Ann), Bolton, Ont., and Cyril (Kathy), Greenfield; sisters-in-law, Barbara McNamara, Sydney, Jo-Anne McNamara, Pictou, nieces, nephews and many lifelong friends. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Francis, Garfield, Emmerson, and Greg, along with his nephews , Kenny and Kenny. Adrian was a proud police officer. Upon starting his policing career in 1977 with the Glace Bay Police Department which later amalgamated to Cape Breton Regional Police, he took pride in his work serving the community, always with care and compassion. During this time, he made lifelong friends. Throughout the years, Adrian was a mentor to the youth in his community. He was co-founder of both Safe Grad and the Passchendale Police Boys Club. One of the highlights of his career was being awarded the Medal of Bravery in Ottawa in 1987. Brittany would like to express her deepest gratitude to her father who was always a loyal, proud, devoted and loving father. He will be dearly missed by many and his memory will be honored by living life out to the fullest. In honoring Adrian’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a family service will be held and interment will take place at a later date. Donations in Adrian’s memory may be made to St. Anthony’s Parish Cemetery, the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation, or a charity of choice. Arrangements are under the direction of V.J.
