Obituary of Helen G. (Coffin) McKenzie, Glace Bay
Helen G.(Coffin) McKenzie, age 92 passed away at Maple Hill Manor, New Waterford on Sunday, August 9, 2020, where she spent the past two and a half years.
She was a long time resident of Leslie Lane and Poole Avenue, Glace Bay. She was a daughter of the late Bill and Cassie (Matheson) Coffin.
Helen was an accomplished crafter, with many of her beautiful works cherished by her loved ones. Helen was an avid reader, who had many favourite authors. She had a wonderful sense of humour and was very witty. When you were with Helen your day was a whole lot brighter. She was a member of the Glace Bay Hospital Health Auxiliary for many years. Helen was also a member of Newsom United Church and a past member of the UCW. She was once employed at Seaview Manor, Glace Bay as a C.N.A.
Helen will be sadly missed by her loving children, son, Roy (Mary Ann) McKenzie, Victoria, BC; son, Maynard McKenzie, Sydney, NS; and daughter, Linda McKenzie, Grand Prairie, AB. She is survived by her six grandchildren, Margo, Kevin, Meghan, Scott, Natasha, and Christopher, great grandchildren, Jade, Violet, Lexie, Maitri, Addison and Preston as well as many nieces/nephews and special niece, Sherri Coffin. She will also be missed by her brothers, Norman (Amelia, predeceased), Donald (Shirley), Jim (Debbie), Kelvin (Eileen), all of Glace Bay and sisters, Sara (Reg) Deveaux, Westmount and Carol (Bob) Norsworthy, Caribou, ME.
Besides her parents, Helen was predeceased by her husband, Ernest McKenzie. She also deeply mourned the passing of her daughter, Anita McKenzie Riley in 2014; daughter, Valarie in infancy; brothers, Roy and Raymond and her sister, Audrey Wheeliker.
At this time the family would like to thank the Maple Hill Manor - Acadia House for their loving care; Dr. G. Spencer and Dr. Hadadad.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, Cremation & Reception Center, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. There will be a celebration of life held on Thursday, September 23rd, 2021 at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Lay Minister Nancy Whitney officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Helen’s memory may be made to the Hospice Palliative Care Society in Cape Breton Island or to a charity of one’s choice.
