Obituary of Gary Sidney Wrathall, Sydney

It is with heavy hearts and deep regret that we, the family, announce the passing of Gary Wrathall, age 71 on Wednesday, August 19th, 2020 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of Mrs. Mary (Poirier) Wrathall and the late Sidney Wrathall. Gary started his working career with the Cape Breton Post, driving their trucks and delivering papers to convenient stores. He then moved on and became a correctional officer at the Cape Breton Correctional Center for 37 years. He was also employed with Scotia Protection and then Black Belt Security until his illness. Gary looked forward to spending time with his Pal, Mike Chiasson. They worked together for 33 years and formed a friendship that lasted a lifetime. Gary is survived by his loving wife, Gerrine (McDonald) Wrathall, sons, Garrett (Joann Chopeck) and Jeffrey (Brittany Morrison), three grandchildren, Hayley, Hillary and Brantley. He is also survived by his siblings, Dave (Trish), Tennessee, Donnie (Jean), Eric (Suzanne), Derek, all of Sydney as well as several nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11 am, August 26th, 2020 in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. Fr. Dan Boudreau officiating. Burial to follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Reserve Mines. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to Hospice Palliative Care at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
