TO Nelsons family and Eddie and family: Our sincerest condolences. I spoke with you Eddie recently about Murrant houses in South Head and you and Blanche shared stories with me, and I knew your brother was not well. Your were very kind to spend some time with me on the phone. SO sorry to hear that ALS took him. I know that his and your grandfather was a good friend of my grandfather Scott Ervin. It was interesting to know that my grandparents lived in a Murrant house floated from South Head to Port Morien. I also know that Scott would be glad that we recognize Nelsons passing. Sandra, Parker, Debbie and all the extended family and friends, please know that we are thinking of you during this most difficult time. Nelson defined the word gentleman in every act of kindness, every word and every deed. Watching the NHL playoffs with all the guys in apartment 109 is my fondest memory of him. I remember distinctly one game where one of the guys got a little outspoken over the game and Nelson wasn’t long reminding him in a very polite way that it was not just the guys there, a true gentleman in every sense of the word. His devotion to Sandra and his family was remarkable. People often say that when someone passes, they earn their wings, Nelson didn’t have to earn his wings, I truly believe he was born with them. It just took a long time for him to get to use them. Rest easy my friend, and biggest of hugs from Jim and I in Newfoundland.

Sandra, Parker, Debbie & extended Murrant Family,
We were sad learning of Nelson's ("Nessie") passing. He shall be remembered for his kindness, his gentle concern, fairness, and being inclusive to all those he met during his travels. Nelson was a special friend while I was a youngster living in Port Morien. One of those rare souls who I rediscovered years later in Boston who remained the same wonderful "Nessie Murrant" we all knew and respected. We enjoyed every minute of those special times anytime after when we met over the years. Enjoying stories, laughter, each other's accounts of our changing lives, and so many fond memories. I believe Nelson was one of those special people who others will recall admiring and respecting because he was genuine.
I regret not having a chance to see him in action with the Cape Breton Sledge Hammer Hockey Team after learning of the passion he held for that sport. Our thoughts, prayers, and deepest sympathy go out to you and all who will miss this true friend.
