Allison and family,
What a wonderful thing it is to have lived a century and seen so many changes in that lifetime! Christmas is such a sad time to lose someone we love, but how excited will her loved ones be that have been patiently waiting for Gertie to join them at such a joyous time! To the Peach family, sorry for your loss, may you find peace and love in your time of sorrow. Gertie was my Great Aunt (Johnny was my Grandfather), and will forever be missed. One of my favourite childhood memories was taking the tourist train out to Louisbourg with my father (Gordon) and making a quick stop in to see Aunt Gertie in Port Morien. I know that was many years ago but her charisma had a lasting impact that I've never forgotten. Please accept my deepest condolences.

I shared many interactions with Gertie and Howard over the years at the pharmacy, and admired their independence and devotion to one another, as well as to their family. Dougie, Gloria, Aileen and family.
So very sorry to hear of the passing of Aunt Gertie.
I think the last time that I visited the house, your dad was working on the lawn tractor in the garage and your mom was telling him to wait until Dougie came out before going up on the roof to fix some shingles. He would have been 97 or 98 at the time. They don't make them like your parents anymore. They were very special people and loved by all who knew them.

Such a lovely lady, always had a smile and always took the time to chat and ask about our kids whenever we met. She seemed ageless despite her age, she got to experience so many changes in the world in her 101 years. Sincere sympathy on the loss of your mother. I feel I knew both your mother and father from my many conversations with you Doug when we worked together. They were the source of all the good qualities I so admired in you; intelligence, integrity, humour, leadership, kindness, honesty and , most of all, love of family. I know they were wonderful parents and you honoured them.

Hi Dougie, Gloria, Aileen & Family
We are sorry learning Gertie has passed despite a full life. She left us with splendid memories and many lessons. Any return to Port Morien included a visit with "Gertie and Howard". I was guaranteed a warm welcome, stories about our relatives, their family, and grandchildren who remain precious.
Visits included a serving of delicious home-made bread and treats during our tea together. I recall getting out of school on a miserable day to find your Mom waiting there to drive us home. She remained young (in my mind) because she always looked and acted "cool". During our last visit with Gertie at Seaview Manor, my daughter (Natalie) mentioned what a great sport your Mom was recalling stories about "Dougie and Gus". I was proud of telling her about Gertie and Howard's love, and respect, for each other. True friends who were devoted to their faith, family, community, and friends. You remain in our thoughts and prayers.
