Obituary of Gertrude "Gertie" Peach, Port Morien

It is with heavy hearts that we the family announce the passing of a loving wife and mother Gertie Peach, age 101, a lifelong resident of Port Morien. Born in Port Morien, she was the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth (McDonald) Nearing and the last surviving member of her family. She leaves to mourn her son, Doug (Gloria),her daughter in-law, Aileen and seven grandchildren ; Stephen (Maryam), Desi (Sheila), Noel (Lindsay), Allison(Wayne) Pinhorn, Jared (Jill),Tara ( Denis) Aucoin, James (Tammy)and ten great grand children, Aaron, Mena, Shaelyn, Deon, Naomi, Charlie, Dani, Elliot, Nate and Cohen whom she loved dearly and brought her endless pride and joy. A lifelong member of St. Mary’s parish, Mom had a long and joyful life devoted to her family, church, community and her wide circle of friends. Mom was predeceased by the love of her life Howard Peach, her son, Howard Jr. and her grandson, Keith, her sisters, Iris Clements, Monica Mann, Florence Locke, Susan Gillis, and Kathleen Gouthro and her brothers, Roy, Johnny, Adrian, Danny and Tommy . The family would like to acknowledge and thank the staff at Seaview Manor, Glace Bay who provided excellent care, love and support. Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Glace Bay. Interment will be held at a later date in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
