Obituary of Anita Robinson, Glace Bay

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mom, sister, grandmother and great grandmother, Anita Robinson, age 78 on Monday, May 10th, 2021 at the Glace Bay Hospital. Born in New Waterford, Mom was survived by her five children whom she loved dearly, Irma (Bucky) Morgan, Anita Budden, Sandra (Dave) Robinson, Susan Robinson and John (Melanie) Robinson. She was also survived by her fourteen grandchildren, Ryan, Mitchell, Barry, Stephanie, Alexander, Shayleen, Brady, Johnathan, Tanya, Nichole, Crystal, John, Avery and Savannah. Mom also had seven great grandchildren, Hunter, Raeven, Peyton, Jackson, Gracie, Chloe and Noah. Mom is also survived by her sister, Noreen (Aubrey) Waidson and brother, Lloyd (Anne) Gardiner, as well as her many nieces and nephews. Mom was predeceased by her father, Joseph Detienne, her mom, Catherine (Perfect) Gardiner, step dad, John Gardiner, sisters, Martha Detienne, Tissie Waidson, Cavelle Robinson and her brother, Joe Detienne. Anyone that knew Mom, knew she loved to dance and play bingo. In her younger years she enjoyed spending time at Branch 3 Legion, Glace Bay. Our family would like to thank Dr. Wiggins and staff, Dr. Coakley, Dr. Crosby, Michelle Finney, Dr. Lee and the staff of Third South, Glace Bay Hospital, as well as the wonderful staff at Victorian Haven that really made her feel at home. Special thanks to the staff from New Waterford Agency and the VON who used to make daily visits and care for mom. We also would like to thank one of mom’s closest friends, Father Paul MacGillivary for being a true friend throughout the years. Cremation has taken place. Due to covid restrictions a private funeral service will be held in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay followed by interment in St. James Cemetery, Gardiner Mines with Fr. Paul MacGillivary presiding. There will be a mass celebrating her life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Palliative Care or the Alzheimer’s Society.
