Obituary of Hilda (Nalepka) Shaw, Glace Bay

It is with great sadness that the family announce the passing of Hilda Wanda Shaw, age 96 on Tuesday, June 8th, 2021 in the Glace Bay Hospital. Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Rose and Joseph Nalepka. She resided in Glace Bay her entire life. Hilda attended Caledonia School, School Street and worked at Zilbert’s Grocery, Pitt Street as well as Tops Market, McKeen Street, Glace Bay for a number of years. She was an avid bowler in her early years and enjoyed playing cards with her very close friends. In her later years, Hilda loved working on her crossword and jumble puzzles daily, and had a passion for baking. She looked forward to her nightly calls with her sister and her regular trips to the Casino. Hilda is survived by her daughter, Anne (Nush) and sons, Joseph and Michael, Ontario. She is also survived by her sister, Edith, Ontario and grandchildren, Lori, Hong Kong and Heather, Ontario and great grandchildren, Sofia and Cole, Hong Kong and Evan, Marin, Graham and Meagan, Ontario. Hilda was predeceased by her husband, Cecil and sisters, Valerie, Bernice, Rita and her brother, Walter. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at the Glace Bay Hospital, 3rd floor, for their care and compassion. There will be no visitation or mass. Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay.
