Obituary of Lillian Marie McKinnon, Glace Bay

We are saddened to announce the passing of Lillian Marie McKinnon on Friday, September 24, 2021 at the V.G. Hospital, Halifax. Born in Glace Bay, she was the eldest daughter of Michael and Elizabeth (McInnis) McKinnon. Lillian completed her Bachelor of Arts and Education degrees from St. Francis Xavier University. Lillian began her teaching career at John Bernard Croak and finished her career at St Anne’s school where she retired in 2020. Lillian was a passionate educator and her students could always count on her bringing “Awesome” creativity to the classroom and being their biggest fan. She was known for being a die-hard Habs fan and took every opportunity to relish every win. Lillian was happiest when surrounded by family and friends but the real love of her life were her wheaten terriers. As with everything Lillian did, she brought an amazing sense of fun and childlike enthusiasm to caring for her fur babies. Lillian is survived by her sisters, Kathleen and Elizabeth (Dario), her sister in law, Lori (Paul) and niece, McKenzie and nephew, Logan and her two wheaten terriers, Macallan and Mandy. Lillian was predeceased by her parents and brothers, Mike and Paul. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 3 p.m. on Friday, October 1, 2021 in St. Anne’s Church, Glace Bay followed by interment in the parish cemetery. Fr. Duaine Devereaux officiating. Memorial Donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the SPCA. The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff of Glace Bay and VG Hospitals for their care and compassion. “Death leaves a heart ache no one can heal; Love leaves a memory no one will steal.” On line condolences to the family can be expressed at: www.vjmcgillivray.ca Funeral arrangements entrusted to V.J.
