Obituary of Mary 'Sheila' Vaninetti, South Bar
Another Angel has returned to heaven.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mary 'Sheila' Vaninetti on Thursday, October 28, 2021 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital’s Palliative Care unit.
Born March 28, 1941, Sheila was the daughter of the late Joe and Kay Wrigg and Eddy Poirier.
Sheila is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Guido; her beloved children, Bernie, Linda MacDonald (Glenn), Kathy (Mike) Jones and her adored grandchildren, Brett (Terrilynn) and Emily; special friend, but more like a son, Blair Slade.
Sheila will always be remembered for her kindness. She always put others before herself and made sure everyone was looked after. At gatherings, her friends would always share a story of some special act of kindness she did for them. She loved spending time with her friends and always enjoyed her evenings at Bingo. Sheila had a rough road through life with multiple health issues over the years, but always rose above them with her incredible determination and strength.
Sheila’s family would like to thank the incredible staff at both the QE2 Infirmary and the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for the amazing care they provided her in her final days. They would especially like to thank Dr. Oei and his assistant Shirley who provided Sheila with a lifetime of exceptional care and friendship.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford, on Tuesday, Nov. 2, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Funeral Mass of celebration will take place Wednesday, Nov. 3 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Father Peter McLeod officiating. Burial will be in St. Alphonsus Cemetery, Victoria Mines, with a reception to follow at the Knights of Columbus Hall, New Waterford. Masks and proof of double vaccination are required at the visitation, funeral and reception. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the An Cala Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
