Gaye, Patsy, Bobby, David and families,
It saddens me to see Marshall's obituary. The last time Willena and I saw him was during the drive by to celebrate his 100th birthday, and what a drive by it was. I have many fond memories of spending time at your house, the laughter and fun and, of course, the many, many occasions that he would open up the gym for the kids in the neighbourhood. (I think he got as much enjoyment out of it as we did). He was certainly generous with his time for the neighbourhood children and the community at large. May He Rest in Peace.

So sorry to hear of the loss of my Uncle Marshall. Although we lived far away we always had a close bond with your family through my dad, Gord. I initially got to know Marshall in the course of a very interesting interview I did with him 20-some years ago at his kitchen table in New Waterford. Needless to say, I made a great friend that day.
Marshall talked at length about his early time as an athlete along with his later years as a coach and baseball umpire. He briefly brought up World War ll -- a long fierce battle in which he proudly represented his country as a member of the Canadian Army.
In 1944, during that awful war, Marshall was shipped overseas where he and his comrades were placed front and center battling the enemy -- on the front line, no less! His quote to me describing that astonishing time was amazing: ‘’Men were killed,‘’ he said. ‘’Then new guys would come in to replace them and they got killed. I'm thinking I'm next. But for some reason I was lucky.‘’
Wow, to have lived that!
Rest in peace Marshall.
My sincere condolences to the Desveaux family.

Our sincere condolences on Marshall’s passing. Seems like Duffy was always on the move - on the court, with the troops overseas, on his mail route, and finally, keeping on eye on things at Taigh Na Mara. He was a local icon and I know how much he meant to his family, and I know he will be sorely missed but most fondly remembered. Truly the end of an era. You will be in our thoughts and prayers on Remembrance Day.

We are saddened by Marshall’s passing. Marshall was one of my father’s best friends; a friendship nurtured through their involvement in sports. To people of my vintage who were active in sports, Marshall was the man. He was the guy who let us in the gym, the guy who would coach us when nobody else would and the guy who was always there to offer encouragement. Marshall was one of New Waterford’s most distinguished personalities; a decorated veteran, one of the best athletes ever developed in New Waterford, and a coach of the famous New Waterford Strands. Above all, Duffy was a humble man; a legend in everybody’s mind , but his own. Our sincere condolences to the family. Lowell 'Gussie Crowbar' & Chris Cormier

Dear Cat & Micker, Gaye and Margaret Anne, and all of the Desveaux Family,
Despite a long life well-lived, as is evident from his obituary, I can't tell you how saddened I was to hear of your Dad's passing.
Such a kind and gentle man. He was that way when we were kids and remained that way as we all grew into adulthood. I don't ever remember a time when he wasn't a perfect gentleman, kind and caring, and always happy and smiling. He not only instilled a love of sports, and sportsmanship, in his children but in all of us. Everybody should have a "Duffy" in their lives, and we were blessed to have him in ours. Please know that Isabel and I are keeping all of you in our thoughts and prayers. I will be with you in spirit as you say your farewells this week.
With love and my deepest sympathy,

What I remember of Marshal was his good looks and incredible smile of warmth when he would deliver the mail to our house on James Street.
He was brother-in-law to my sister Mary and when he would stop by, my parents thoroughly enjoyed his friendship.
He was a man's man!
No matter what my mom was doing, her eyes would sparkle with mirth when he arrived and they would chat for a moment before he continued his route.
He will always be fondly remembered.
