Obituary of Theresa Joann Larade: New Waterford,Whitney Pier

It is with great sadness that we, the children of Joann Larade, announce her peaceful passing on January 12, 2022 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born June 26, 1961, Joann was the daughter of the late Joseph “Chops” and Theresa (McGillivray) Larade. Mom is survived by her loving children, Stephen (Shelaine), Shari (Brad), Tyler, and Andrew (Jenn); her first grandson, “Nanny's Precious Peanut” - Townsend, Summer, and her furbaby, Kobe. Joann is also survived by her siblings, Tish, Hughie (Donelda), Laurie (Wayne), Kim (Bob), Tommy (Carolanne); her extended family, Mary Gilyan, Ildi (Paul), and Robbie (Tammy) and numerous loving nieces and nephews. Mom worked at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital in the ER. She absolutely loved her “work family”. Her unique energy surely did not go unnoticed. She was the only lady known to clean her cleaning supplies and whenever asked by co-workers if any help was needed she would respond by saying “I’m fine, go find someone else to help”. Mom was also employed with Cape Breton Regional Housing Authority. Mom was happiest when spending time with her children, gatherings with siblings and especially chatting to her “little peanut” Townsend. She loved hosting holiday gatherings and having her Sisters over to play TV Bingo three times a week, where large amounts of Tim Hortons tea was consumed. Mom also looked forward to the annual Cheticamp trip every year to spend time with family near and far. Known for her hard work ethic, compassion for others, selflessness and big heart, Mom will be greatly missed by all those who knew her. “We are strong, because a strong woman raised us” Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, New Waterford. Due to COVID restrictions, a private family service will be held in the funeral home chapel. Jojo will be laid to rest with her parents at St. Michael’s Cemetery in River Ryan. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Cape Breton Cancer Centre or Palliative Care. Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at: www.vjmcgillivray.ca.
