Sincere condolences to Rita’s children and all her family on her passing . To know Rita was to love her … I will forever cherish the memories of the “ old days “when we were teenagers driving the strip in New Waterford and getting into mischief . The Heffernan home was a place where you were welcomed day or night , no questions asked .
Wally was the love of her life and I believe they are together now dancing and laughing as they did in the past . I will never forget Rita for as long as I live and feel blessed that I shared her friendship in the days of old . RIP dear sweet Rita .

My memories of Rita are of our years at St Agnes playing on the basketball team. Crazy thing to remember but Rita always had the best skort on the team- pristine white with starched razor sharp pleats. In those days we washed and ironed our own uniforms! She was fiercely loyal to her friends and could bring us to our knees in laughter sharing her views on the world around us. With fond memories of a beautiful soul, Helen (Desveaux) Neufeld

Netty, Helen, Shannon and Rita's children and grand children and extended families:
We were sad today to read about Rita's passing. She will always be the same beautiful, energetuc, funny girl she was in her teens, in our memories of her. I (Beth) attended St. Agnes High with her and saw her meet and fall in love with Wally. Bernie was one of many young men who had the privilege of sharing a date with Rita as a teenager. We both regret to know of the cruel disease that took her away from you. But, the happiest guy in heaven now is Wally. We prefer to think of them dancing together again. Sincere sympathy to you all, on your hard loss.

To the family of Wally and Rita Poirier: I'm sure your hearts are broken to lose such a huge part of your lives. As the wife of my dear cousin Wally, she was loved and admired by all who were blessed to know her. She had a peaceful mannerism and was always very gracious whenever our paths crossed, united now with the one she loved so much, their union is restored. Death robs us of those we love, thank God death can't steal the memories we make while they are with us, it's those thoughts that sustain us during the lonely times. My thoughts and prayers are with each of you asking God to give you the courage and strength you will need to live life without her. be well, stay safe and know that you are near and dear to my heart, forever just Cuz w.

Rita Poirier was a class act. When she came into the room, you knew someone special had arrived. She was always well turned out and full of vim and vigor. In any one conversation she could artfully bring together experiences from the military, life in the US, and memories of her early days growing up in Cape Breton, and make it all seem seamless. She loved life, her wonderful children, and most of all her beloved Wally. I knew her through my sister, Anita Poirier, and met her many times at Anita and Dave’s house. May she rest in blessed peace now that she’s with Wally in the great beyond. Leona English, Antigonish

To Rita’s family: It is with a very heavy heart we send our condolences. It is never easy to loose a loved one especially a mother. There are no words strong enough to express this sorrow. Rita was a very dear friend of ours especially since I moved to Halifax. I have many beautiful memories of our girl outings shopping then supper what we did best l!!!! But my favourite and last memory was our last outing just before COVID she had such a good time we came back to my house and played music she danced up a storm some of which I have on video. I will cherish these beautiful memories and know that she is now dancing with her sole mate in heaven. RIP my good friend love you.
