Obituary of Darrell "Spud" McNeil, Dominion, NS, Arnprior, ON

It is with great sadness, that we the family announce the passing of our brother, Darrell “Spud” McNeil, age 61 of Dominion who passed away on March 11th, 2022 at Arnprior Hospital near Ottawa. Born in Glace Bay and raised in Dominion, Darrell was the son of the late Neil “Buddy” & Margaret (MacLean) McNeil. Darrell was a dedicated member of the Dom-Re-Gard Kinsmen, The Dominion Volunteer Fire Dept. and Carlton Place Volunteer Fire Dept. He enjoyed playing darts and a good game of hockey and baseball. Darrell always enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He moved to Ottawa in 1999 where he lived until his passing. Darrell leaves to mourn his siblings, Neil (Gilbretta), Kim (Edward), Judy, Janine all of Dominion, Donnie (Michelle), New Brunswick and only son, Brandon of Edmonton, Alberta, two step children, Courtney Richer (Tony) and Bradley Leon. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews along with a special friend, Donna Stoppa and many family and friends here in Dominion and Ottawa. Besides his parents, Darrell was predeceased by his sister, Carol MacNeil and brother in law, Peter MacNeil. Visitation will be held in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay on Friday, April 1, 2022 from 2-4, 7-9 pm. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, April 2, 2022 at 11 am in Immaculate Conception Church, Bridgeport with Fr. Dan Boudreau presiding. Interment at a later date in St. Eugene's Cemetery. A reception will take place at the Dominion Fire Hall following the funeral mass. Memorial donations in memory of Darrell may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
