I was so sad to hear about Mary Theresa. I have fond memories of her birthday parties when we were in grade school. I was so excited every year to get to her parties. They were such fun. Her dad always put on a scary face and limped into the room and scared us. We screamed blue murder. She always had beautifully written note books, which I would beg for, to help me study for exams. Mary never had to write final exams. We shared tents a few times at St. Ann's Camp back in the day. We lost touch over the years as I moved away but we would bump into each other and catch up when ever I visited Glace Bay. Rest In Peace Mary Theresa. Say hi to Shirley .

Mary shaped many of my childhood memories of visiting Glace Bay. She was a gracious host with a kind heart and exuberant spirit. Oh how the world would be such a better place if all people possessed these qualities! To me, she is family and her warmth won’t be forgotten. Rest peacefully, knowing that you are loved.

I was heartbroken to hear of Mary's passing. She was a great friend with a big heart and an even bigger smile. I met Mary many years ago at Toby's & Ein's and we became great friends....she even convinced me to join the bowling league at Knox. We had lots of fun and laughs on those bowling nights & tournaments, but our friendship went beyond the lanes, there were many chats on the phone, many days sitting on the front step on Park Street, not to mention the many years of helping out with her Christmas Tree. I have great memories of heading to Mary's after a night bowling with some of the others and we would get the tree set up in the stand, string the lights and hang the decorations. This continued for many years....I would go down each year before Christmas and help her with the tree and the rest of her decorations. In later years, I gave Mary a small table top tree with lots of mini decorations which we put together one Christmas, and after the holidays were over, Mary just covered it up and put it away until the next Christmas, and when it was time to decorate the next year, I would go down and we would laugh as we fluffed up and rearranged some of the decorations on the little tree. Thank you for your friendship & kindness my friend...not to mention all of the delicious cookies you made for me and many others over the years. I will never forget you and I will hold all of the laughs and tears we shared and the memories we made in a special place in my heart.

Mary and I met in the early 80's at Knox Lanes and have been very good friends since then. I am still struggling with the fact that she is no longer just a phone call away. Even though I now live on Vancouver Island, Mary and I stayed in close contact. We had our regular phone chats where she kept me up to date on everything in the Bay. I will miss those phone calls dearly. A couple of my favorite memories are two road trips we took to visit her brothers Johnny and David. We drove to Bridgewater for a family wedding and also to New Brunswick to a campground where David and Dorine were staying. We had such good times and shared a lot of laughs. At a time when I needed some help, Mary was there for me. She didn't hesitate to open her door and share her home with me. I am forever grateful for her friendship.
My heartfelt condolences to Johnny and Donna, David and Dorine, Paula and extended families. Hugs to all.
Rest easy my friend. I miss you.

We just found out today that our lovely neighbour Mary had passed away. It was the saddest news ! So hard to believe she is gone!
Ted was talking to her not long ago on the phone and wanted to visit her but she told him to wait till after the COVID was over . How very very sad we are. Ted was Frank’s best friend since they were kids. And she lived just across the street from where I grew up so we knew her and loved her forever. Mary was friends with everyone. We will miss her very much for a long long time!
Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and especially her brothers.
Rest In Peace Dear Mary.
Sincerely ,Ted and Brenda (Bushell) Lawrence

I worked with Mary at Sam Records in the Bay for a couple of years. She was such a wonderful, positive and happy person to be around and the best boss. She seemed to know everyone in town and was always eager to laugh and smile. God love her

To all Mary's family:
I am so sorry to hear my dear friend has passed. I was wondering why I couldn't get in touch with her. I was planning on a visit with her while I am back in the Cape for the season. I lived on Park St also. and Mary's house was the "place to be". Everybody went to the original homestead to sit on the porch in nice weather and inside on colder days, in Mary's special den with the record player going even when Mary wasn't home!!!! And there her Mom would let us have a party in the family rooms on her birthday or other ocassions, especially the wonderful kitchen.! She was so much fun and knew everybody from working in the Bay. I just loved her.
Sincere sympathy to ALL her precious family.
Love and prayers

So sorry to see this. Mary was my first friend when I moved to St. Anne's School in Grade 6. We wore our hair in poneytails, same sailor blouses and loved it when people thought we were sisters. Once a friend with Mary, always a friend. God Bless.

What Mary lacked in height she more than made up for in laughter and enthusiasm. Always happy. Always open for a chat. These last few years have been difficult ones as her ability to travel were limited; but the phone was always close by. She was great to chat with; and you always had the feeling she really cared about what you said. Once your friend, always your friend. I regret "waiting for tomorrow to visit" with her as that opportunity has now so sadly passed. She may be gone, but she'll never be forgotten. Rest in Peace Mary. My condolences to her family and friends.

I am still trying to wrap my mind around the fact that Mary is gone and our phone calls have ceased. Mary was a great friend whether we were at work, at Knox Lanes or partying, always had that bright smile and a helping hand whatever the circumstances. I can honestly say she was a great friend and I will miss her every day. Oh yes, she made great tea biscuits! Condolences to her brothers and extended family members, she loved you unconditionally.

Mary was a kind and loving person. She valued her family and community beyond measure, a characteristic she learned at a very age from her parents ,Joe and Sadie Maclean who were the epitome of community mindedness. Their home was always opened to anyone who needed a hot meal or a warm bed. Mary carried on that tradition until her passing. Mary loved Glace Bay. She will be forever missed.

We are saddened on learning of Mary’s death. While it’s been quite some time since we saw her, I was fortunate to have had a good chat by phone early this Spring. Mary was a very special person who had room in her heart and home for everyone. Lots of great memories of our gatherings at her place when her parents were there and always being made to feel welcome. Rest In Peace Mary.

So sorry to hear of Mary's passing. I remember Mary hanging out with my sister-in law Shirley McNeil on Park street and one fond memory was one Saturday afternoon when I was over at Joey Bushell's place and he was playing his guitar and Shirley and Mary were dancing to the music on Shirley's front step. A great person and now she gets to hang with Shirley in Heaven. God is in for a real treat with those two getting together again. R.I.P. Mary. Love and Condolences to the family.-Kevin McNeil.
