Obituary of Clarice MacDonald, Glace Bay

It is with great sadness that we the family of Ann Clarice MacDonald, age 82 of Glace Bay announce her passing at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on Tuesday, July 5th, 2022 surrounded by her loving family.

Clarice was the daughter of the late Michael MacDonald and Mary (Cummings) MacDonald.

Mom was a small lady by stature but her strength and perseverance was admired by all who knew her. Her huge heart and kindness will be remembered as she was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.

Born and raised in Glace Bay, where many childhood memories were made showing her brothers her skills at bike riding, rock skipping and acrobat rings. She often talked about rushing down the seashore to turn on the lighthouse when the fog would come rolling in.

At age 17, Clarice graduated from St. Anne’s School and also caught the eye of her soulmate Bob, as she skipped her way to the school dance. This was the beginning of their love story that she shared with dad for 49 years.

Clarice enjoyed many activities over the years including, darts, bingo, knitting and embroidery. The mother of nine we are amazed that she had time for anything else besides raising her children. This proved to be challenging at times as her husband travelled often for work. Mom also managed to work full time with many positions and later retired from Medical Hall Pharmasave on Commercial Street where her coworkers became lifelong friends. Mom was a lifelong member of Holy Cross Church.

Clarice is survived by children, Rob, Ont., Denise, Craig, Cori, Leanne and Alicia both of Ont., her brother Billy, 19 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Besides her parents, Clarice was predeceased by her husband Robert “Bob”, sons, Gary, Kenny, John A. as well as grandchildren, Joelle, Amber, Gregory and her brother Michael “Buddy”.

Cremation has taken place. The funeral service will be held on Friday, July 15th at 1 pm in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay with Fr. Norman MacPhee presiding. Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery, Wallace Road.
