Laura and I went up to Cape Breton on Friday night and we were able to spend time with her when she was coherent on Saturday. She recognized us both, spoke to us and smiled and said she was so happy to see us. I was so fortunate that at this time, I was was able to tell her myself that we're having a baby, a big smile burst across her face and she whispered how happy she was to hear it. She then drifted off to sleep. I sat with her and held her hand, returning the next day to sit with her again amongst our family but this time without her waking.
Anyone who knew my grandmother would easily admit, she was a wonderful person. Luckily for me, and likely challenging for her, she cared for me for most of my life and her home was my second home - eventually housing our dog Caesar. Grandma loved animals, and although her own choices in pets were not always the best (like the untameable Clancy), she held firm until the end with the belief that everyone was happier with a dog - offering to buy Laura and I a sheltie - no matter the cost!
Gramma was my second parent, my cheerleader, supporter, disciplinarian and great example of how to live your life with a sweet tooth, a salty appetite and love in your heart. Grandma made everyone laugh and she had a twinkle in her eye - whether she was offering you candy, slipping a $20 bill into your hand or if you were Lucky enough, a jar of pickled polish sausage at Christmas, she was always looking out for you.
After anyone met her, they could not help but be impressed by her humour, happiness and heart - despite living through two pandemics, losing my grandfather at 65 and suffering more heartbreaking loss in my uncles and cousin as she aged. Her optimism and attitude always let you know, she was in your corner. Although she lived a very long and happy life, the hole she has left will take a very long time to fill. I was so very proud of her and can’t wait to tell our child stories about her and reflect on how truly remarkable she was. Rest In Peace Grandma, I know no one else more deserving of this long overdue break. I love you.

When I received the news of Gloria’s passing, I reflected on her long life and her 80 years living on Heelan St. She was the very last of our original Timmons family.
As one of her many nieces and nephews, we all knew from an early age that Gloria was steadfast in her commitment to share her deep faith. And I always felt blessed to have her as my Godmother and knew that I was included in her Mantle of Prayer. A few months ago, I was fortunate to have a brief visit with Gloria in her home and experience her “welcome” one last time.

I am saddened I am unable to attend. I am in Florida! My favourite memory is going on sleepovers with Cathy and Big Glor would set us up with colouring books! Even better were the Sundays in East Bay! Big Glor was a big presence always joking and laughing! My favourite though was going over to her house the week of Christmas to get a great present from my godmother! It was always my best present! I couldn’t wait to get there! RIP Big Glor!
