Obituary of Gloria Marguerite Timmons, New Waterford

Gloria Marguerite (McNeil) Timmons of New Waterford, affectionately known as Gramma Timmons, passed away on October 31, 2022 at the age of 107 years old.

She was born on August 16, 1915 to Stephen B. McNeil and Johanna (Dunbar). Although she grew up in Glace Bay, she spent 80 years living on Heelan Street in New Waterford.

Gloria is survived by sons, Art (Claire), Stephen 'Ness' (Jari-Ann) of New Waterford, with whom she resided, Michael (Kelly) of Sackville; daughter, Cathy and daughter-in-law, Sherry of New Waterford; many nieces and nephews. Gramma is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Adrian Timmons Sr.; sons, Adrian Jr. and Bobby; grandson, Connor Timmons; sisters, May (Vince) MacCormick, Annie (Richard) Spracklyn, Cathy McNeil; brothers, George, Michael, and Peter Francis 'Bunny' (Kay) McNeil.

Gloria was a woman of great faith. She attended daily mass as long as she was able to walk and then followed it on TV. If you happened to visit Gramma after she turned 100 years old, you would find her sitting in her favorite chair in the living room by the window with her rosary in her hand. Gloria was a member of the C.W.L., St. Vincent de Paul Society, St. Agnes Choir, and the Ageing Gracefully Group. Some of the activities she loved and enjoyed were Sunday picnics, cooking dinner every day for her family (and anybody else who happened to drop by), singing all the old songs, playing cards, bonfires, swimming, skating, dogs, making mocca cakes and most of all, CANDY! It is very fitting she should pass away on Halloween - one of the most sweet filled days of the year! She was always a big sports fan but didn't always agree with the referee. Gloria received an honorary award from CBU in recognition for being a dedicated fan. She enjoyed watching hockey and baseball on TV but most enjoyed any sport her children or grandchildren were involved in.

The family are grateful for the excellent care she received from Home Care, VON, and Palliative Care.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 6, 2022 from 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. A Funeral Mass of celebration will take place Monday, November 7, 2022 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Father Godwin Obike officiating. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery with a reception to follow at the K.O.C., New Waterford. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the New Waterford Food Bank or a charity of one's choice. Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at: www.vjmcgillivray.ca.
