My sincere condolences to Greg’s family.
I am a former student and I learned alot in both biology classes that he taught. When I was studying biology in university, I realized how much I’d already learned from his classes. Many of the first year courses contained material that I’d already learned in high school. I will also never forget the Dominion Beach project and other lab experiments we completed. It was a privilege being a student of Greg’s!

I was sad to hear the news of Greg's passing. I was lucky enough to have him as my teacher for 2 years while at BEC. His passion for biology and all the cool projects we got to do made an impression, as biology was my favourite subject and I went on to get a biology degree. My university classmates were impressed that I knew so much about cross-breeding and anesthesizing fruit flies, skills I clearly picked up in Greg's class. He always kept things fun and was always interested in hearing about what was happening in his student's lives, and sometimes the gossip about who was in a fist fight at lunch.
I also remember a summer when your family was camping in Ingonish, but weathered a bad storm at our house. Greg got up to make us all blueberry pancakes with freshly picked berries. It was my first time having blueberries in the pancakes and I thought he was a genius! I've never forgotten that Greg was the one who introduced me to that fabulous breakfast staple.
My condolences to the entire MacSween family. Greg will be missed.

Sincere condolences to Ann, David, Maureen, Shannon, Patricia and all of the MacSween family. Greg was a loving and kind father figure to all of us neighborhood kids. Our sincerest condolences to you, Ann and your extended family on the passing of a good friend and colleague. "Doing it my way " is a good epithet for Greg. I'll share a little anecdote .Greg wanted to play Senior soccer and was not familiar with the checking rules . I was refereeing a game when Greg floored an opposing player who was dazzling the NW team with his dribbling . Of course, I had to award a penalty kick and at the same time informed Greg of the " shoulder to shoulder " check . "I know the rule " he said , " but I bet he won't be dribbling down my side of the field from now on " !

Dearest Ann and family. Sending prayer support, friendship and blessings on the passing to the Lord of Greg. I was privileged to be one of Greg’s first classes as I graduated from Mt. Carmel 1970. Only realize on reading this wonderful obituary that Greg was only several years older than his students but to this very day I remember him as one of the kindest teachers I had. We had such genuine respect for him as he showed equal respect to all of us.
His legacy will live on in New Waterford for his many contributions to education and sports. Now Greg receives the reward of his goodness…everlasting life. I will remember him at my Masses this weekend and as well for all of you who grieve his death.

To Ann, Maureen, Shannon, Patricia, and especially David, I thought I would share a few of my memories of Greg. Having grown up so close, and with David, I have too many memories to write them all. Here are just a few. My earliest time with Greg and David were the odd hockey game in Atom in the old station wagon. Even then, I am sure we did not smell great. I remember watching "The Meaning of Life" when we were probably still a bit too young to watch it. Getting older, I remember the odd math session in the house. And of course I remember the trip to Dominion Beach for the biology project. But what I appreciate the most is learning a bit about boxing and weights in the garage. All told, Greg was a good chunk of my growing up. I will always appreciate the letter of recommendation that Greg wrote that helped me be accepted at the Royal Military College of Canada. That above all impacted my future. Greg's letter of recommendation is litterally the first thing on my military personnel file, a very thick document after 28 years. I met my wife while I was at RMC and she was at Queen's. So, Greg had a part in my own family, both my wife and daughters. I hope to see some of you when I am home again. My condolences, Chad

Dear Anne, MacSween family, extended family and friends, please accept my profound condolences on the passing of Greg. Greg was one amazing individual. He was a real family man so very proud of his family and their activities and accomplishments. His contributions to students, New Waterford Hockey and Tennis as well as the Rink Board are without equal. He was an outstanding teacher, mentor and leader who led by example and with boundless energy. His passing has created a void in our community difficult to fill. Personally he was a great friend and colleague who welcomed me into Breton, New Waterford and helped me get involved with school life and in particular the Bears hockey team. Rest in peace my friend. You are missed.

From the time I was a child I knew Greg MacSween was something special! In the nets for the New Victoria Eagles when he was little more than a kid,to a brilliant science teacher, father figure to many. I never had the honour of being his pupil but got to know him better while we were part of a group trip to Europe in 2007.My sincere sympathy to all his family! He had a brilliant mind and was a valued member of our community in so many ways.

I will always remember Greg for showing such kindness and guidance toward Darnell. It is no doubt Greg influenced Darnell toward a career as a teacher of biology. Darnell saw him as a father figure and I can't tell you how grateful I am for Greg's presence in our lives. Greg was there for me when I entered university and needed a biology refresher...long after I left high school. I know Greg and Howard are playing a good game of hockey in the hereafter... May the family find peace knowing Greg left a positive impact on the lives of others....

My favorite memory of Greg was Grade 12 when we'd attempt to get him talking about the hockey games the previous night before class began in an effort to never get around to Biology. He indulged us a few times but more often than not he'd say "you're not getting me today boys". We respected him so much, maybe because we were afraid of him...haha. And of course we played a LOT of tennis matches throughout the years. Greg helped keep tennis going in New Waterford for many years. He'll be missed.

I am so sorry to hear of Greg’s passing. Many years ago I was fortunate to have him as my biology teacher in grade 11 and 12. He was a terrific teacher, so knowledgeable and a general all around nice guy. My deepest condolences to Ann, his children and all the Mac Sween clan. Rest In Peace, Mr. Mac Sween.
