Obituary of Simon Bernard White, New Waterford

Simon White, 89, of New Waterford sadly passed away after a short illness on Thursday, March 30, 2023, just 27 days before his 90th birthday. 

Simon was born in New Waterford to the late Peter and Julia (Girouard) White on April 26, 1933. 

He married his high school sweetheart, Roberta Carrigan, in 1955 and together with their young family, relocated to Boston, Corner Brook, and then Halifax as Simon pursued a career in municipal planning.  Finally, the family settled back in New Waterford where Simon became Director of Development & Public Works.  He worked for the town for over 15 years and was very proud to have been involved in a number of important development projects including the Miners Monument and Colliery Lands Parks. 

Simon was also very involved with the Knights of Columbus and served as Grand Knight for a number of years.  As well, he was an avid amateur genealogist and was particularly proud of his Acadian ancestry.

Simon is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Roberta “Bobby”, his sons John and Peter, daughter Barbara (Bob) Warner, daughter-in-law Isobel White, grandson Jonathan (Giulia) and a brother Alex (Rose), as well as his many White and Blackwood nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was pre-deceased by a son, Bernard and brothers William (Stella), Peter, Terrence, Kenneth (Brenda) and Michael (Grace).

Cremation has taken place. Please join the family for a time of sharing memories during visitation to be held at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street in New Waterford, commencing at 10:00 am Thursday, April 6, 2023. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 am. in the chapel. Fr. Godwin Obike presiding. The Knights of Columbus will be in attendance. 

Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery.  A Reception will follow at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 3236 Plummer Ave.
