Obituary of Allan 'Bud' Thomas Fisher Beaton, New Waterford; Sydney

July 14,1935 - June 3, 2023

Today we announce the passing of our beloved Uncle Buddy.

Born in New Waterford Buddy was predeceased by his parents John and Catherine (MacDonald), his siblings, Colin, Marguerite (Drohan), Gerard, Bernard, and Kathleen (MacNeil). The last surviving member of the Beaton Family he was a cherished son, brother, brother-in-law, nephew, cousin, and much-loved uncle. Family and ancestry were an important part of Buddy's life.

He started his long career with the Federal Government working at Point Edward Naval Base then for the Canadian Revenue Department in Toronto, Ottawa, and Halifax. Buddy was a consummate professional recognized for his strong work ethic, attention to detail and formulating many formal policy documents.

During his years in Ontario, Buddy's life was shared with family and friends. He especially enjoyed much love and laughter with his brother Collie, sister-in-law Chris, and their children John, Alan and Coleen.

Buddy would spend summer holidays in Cape Breton enjoying the Broadcove Concerts, Gaelic music, sharing conversations and reminiscing about early life in New Waterford.

In 1992 Buddy retired to his Family home in New Waterford resuming old friendships, spending time with his sisters and their Families, becoming very close to his nephew Rod, his wife Carol and their children Nicole and Jonathan. He learned to play both the piano and fiddle.

Later he moved to Sydney living many happy years at Williston House where he made many friends with his teasing wit, love of politics and the Blue Jays.

Buddy received wonderful care the last months of his life at the Miners Memorial Nursing Home in Sydney Mines.

Buddy was a very wise, generous, intelligent and a consummate storyteller.  He was dearly loved by his many nieces and nephews, and he will be missed.
