Obituary of Germaine Rosalie MacDonald, Glace Bay

With profound sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Germaine Rosalie MacDonald, age 90 on Sunday, June 4th, 2023 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Reserve Mines, Germaine was the daughter of the late Thomas & Angeline (Brunet) McDonald.

She was predeceased by her loving husband, Lawrence MacDonald, son, Thomas Currie, brothers, Thomas, Anthony, Raymond, sisters, Hannah, Rose, Julia, Mary, Rosella, Angeline and Antoinette.

Germaine will be lovingly remembered by her sisters, Annie, Catherine (Dave), brother, Edmund, sons, John (Valerie), Kenneth (Sabena), Lloyd (Lynn), daughters, Barbara (Walter), Yvonne, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Germaine was a military wife in her earlier years and lived on several bases throughout Canada. She settled in Glace Bay to raise her family, working at Cadegan’s Fish Plant and the Glace Bay Grill. Germaine was a devoted mother and grandmother with a wicked sense of humour and had a kind and generous soul. She was a faithful catholic and prayed regularly for her family and friends. Germaine was a huge wrestling fan and enjoyed going to bingo on a Friday night. She loved to bake and over decorate for Christmas.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 9th, 2023 from 2-4 to 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. The funeral mass, officiated by Fr. Norman MacPhee will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 am in Holy Cross Church, Glace Bay followed by a reception in the church hall then burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Reserve Mines.
