Obituary of Francis Joseph MacMillan, New Victoria
We regretfully announce the passing of Francis Joseph MacMillan of New Waterford, on June 12th, 2023 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital at the age of 75.
Frankie was born in New Waterford to Joseph and Theresa (Hanrahan) MacMillan in 1947. After high school, he worked for Lands and Forests for a short time before working on the railroad and eventually for Devco for the remainder of his career.
Frank was best known for being the best dancer on the floor wherever he went. He taught rock and roll dancing and won dance competitions around the Island. He was an avid fisherman and loved to sit and watch the ocean. Frankie was an active Kinsman and K-40 member and never missed a Sunday evening of darts in Lingan for 40 years!
Frankie is survived by his three daughters, Sandi (Morgan) Baker, Valerie (James) Walsh, and Lori Ann (Devon) MacMillan; his sister, Doreen (Freddie) Sponagle; brothers, Walter (Mary Alice), Bart (Tillie), and Greg (Mary Jane); also his long time special friend, Gerry Condon. He also loved his four grandchildren, Liam, Kayleigh, Gavin, and Ava. He is preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis, both of his parents, and sister, Mary.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and guidance of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, New Waterford. A Funeral Mass of celebration will be held Saturday, June 17th, at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount carmel Avenue, with Father Godwin Obike officiating. Burial will be in St. James cemetery, Gardiner Mines, with a luncheon to follow at the Gardiner Mines Pensioners' Club. Memorial donations may be made to a local charity of your choice.
