My papa,
I have many memories over the years. Some I can’t put words on and some that will sit with me forever.
I am so grateful that my son got to meet Papa Butch (Papa Smurf) and share some memories.
In 2019 on a trip home from Yellowknife sitting outside in the driveway at Lingan, we had one of the most lovely/tough conversations on some life advice that I will hold on to forever. Thank you Papa.
I can’t wait to come home to Lingan, eat dozens of chicken wings with Diana sauce and sit out in the driveway watching cars pass by, listening to the crickets as the day comes to an end.
RIP papa. You will be missed

Donna and family,
I am so sorry to learn of Butch's passing. I have many fond memories of him as I grew up across the street and hung out with David as kids. Butch was a thoroughly wonderful man. You are in our thoughts and prayers at your time of loss.

Our deepest condolences to Butch's wife Donna and family on his passing. I remember Butch as a friend growing up; he always had a very pleasant and welcoming presence as a friend and schoolmate. We chummed around together in our youth although I hadn't seen Butch often as we went our separate ways in life. He will be sadly missed.

There was never a dull moment when Butch was around! He was great fun and I am sure he will be missed dearly. We visited with him in Oakville a few years ago and enjoyed hearing stories about the family in Cape Breton. What a nice man. I am so sorry for your loss. ~ Carolann Barton

When visiting New Waterford, Butch took us down to the Miners museum. I remember how he took the time to share experiences and knowledge of life as a miner. His kindness will always be remembered.
