Deepest sympathy to the family. Be assured of our prayers for the happy repose of Adelina’s soul and for her loved ones who mourn her loss.
Corresponded with Adelina until she became incapacitated. . We were classmates in Grades 7 and 8. at Central School. Her sister Sylvia as well and Orlando was a classmate (at Central )of my late brother Douglas Fortune. Our family moved to Ontario in 1952 and so lost track of Adelina. After many years , we met again after Mass at Holy Redeemer in Sydney. We exchanged letters , Christmas cards and phone calls for a number of years. She was a dear soul with a profound faith. and a kind heart. Rest in peace dear Adelina.
Mr. and Mrs. Cesar J. Vanneste, Kanata, Ontario

I was shocked to read of Adelina' s passing. I often wondered where she lived and what road she had travelled after attending Mack Business College in Kentville, N.S. I was also a student at that time and have fond memories of her. I tried in recent years to find her on social media to no avail. She was a special person and so thoughtful and caring. She touched my heart by her kindness and humble demeanor and thus it is that I remember her after 54 years of our first meeting. My most heartfelt sympathy to all her loved ones, I know she will be missed. She was a faithful to her God. Rest in Peace. Ruby Lawrence. (nee Schofield)

One of Adelina’s happiest moments was when she was asked to work as live-in housekeeper and cook at St. James’ Catholic Church, Oakville, Ontario with Father “Julio” and Father “Pucci”. They would become her mentors and friends.
She was now in a world where she could live and work and talk and sing out loud dedicated to God and the Church yet maintain her secular life and close relationships with her dearest sister, Candia, and other family and friends who lived nearby.
It was like she was, at the same time, Sister Antonio Marie of the Marthas in Antigonish AND the little Italian girl with her Mamma and Pappa and siblings in Dominion at the Beach (wearing a bathing suit, in public!).
Adelina became close with Fr. Julio and his mother, Mama Lucia. She travelled to Italy with them, where they stayed with his family, then on to Rome, for a private audience with the Pope.
Fr. Julio eventually returned to Lewiston, NY to oversee renovations at Fatima Shrine. Adelina maintained contact with him and continued to visit him at the Shrine many times, staying in residence there with Sr. Anthony.
When we called the Shrine to let them know that Adelina was now very ill and not likely to recover, we learned that Sr. Anthony and Mamma Lucia had passed away several years ago. The Shrine reached out to Adelina, but Adelina’s dementia had taken hold and she had moved to Maple Hill Manor. It is unclear whether Adelina was aware of any calls or mail from the Shrine.
Sadly, we also learned that Fr. Julio passed away in July of this year, just several days before Adelina’s last birthday. At first, we made no connection; but in retrospect, it was around that time when Adelina started to withdraw and deteriorate quickly.
The Shrine offered to dedicate prayers at mass for a peaceful passing for Adelina.
Within half an hour of this call, Adelina slipped away from us.
I believe that perhaps she realized she no longer needed to be driven anywhere by her race car tour-guide wannabe “Chatty Kathy” baby sister. Her wings had arrived, and HE cleared the runway. She had totally earned her wings and was in-flight!

I worked with Adeline at St. James and was always impressed by her many talents, cooking and sewing.
Nothing was too great a challenge for her. I am sure she will be missed.

I knew Adelina, from our time at the Motherhouse in Antigonish. A cherished memory I have was her love of music. She entertained with her vast repertoire from country to opera; she was a delight! May she now sing with the Angels in Paradise.

Aunt Adelina was the sweetest person you could ever have the privilege to have met. She had a wonderful sense of humour, I remember the Halloween party we had,She got dressed up with us and had lots of fun and lots of laughs. I loved listening to her sing ,that was definitely a favourite of hers. Going to miss her and that beautiful sweet smile.

I am a niece of Adelina and was fortunate enough to have lived with her for a little while in Ontario. I have fond memories of our chats and laughs together. She taught me about the benefits of garlic which she used to put a whole garlic clove in a piece of apple and eat it. Something I could never do. I'll always remember what a good cook Adelina was. She will be missed by myself, my family and all who knew her.

When I was younger I always thought my Aunt (the nun) Adelina seemed reserved. Wasn’t until I was older and got to be around her more often that I saw her wit, sense of humour , love of music and singing.
I found out the real Adelina when I attended St F.X and found out she was at St Martha’s Mother house. I went to visit her this one day but it was a rather quick visit because they were about to have a “social” aka “party” and she asked if I’d come back another day, she had to go :)
Now a special Angel
