Obituary of Martin White, Glace Bay
Martin White, a fun and witty 75-year-old man in great health, passed away suddenly in Glace Bay on October 15, 2023, the place he cherished throughout his life. He lived on the street of this town he grew up in, sharing jokes and laughter with people he met. I am sure at one point, if you knew him, he told you to 'Go pound sand'.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Robert and Gertrude [Coffin] White.
Martin had an unwavering passion for music and found solace in simply listening to his favorite tunes, he was known to play his guitar, bringing joy to those around him. He was also an avid fan of all sports and enjoyed his Jeopardy evenings.
Though Martin may no longer walk the streets he called home, his memory will forever echo in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
He was employed at Capracorn Bits in Glace Bay, a company that sold mining gear.
Martin was a devoted father to Lisa [David], Phillip, Olivia [Tom], and Robert, a loving husband to Cathy (nee Gormley) and a loving grandfather to Logan, Anna, Elsie, Levi, Johnnie and Annalise.
He is survived by brothers, Wilfred [Blanche], George [Joanne], Bill [Liz] and Edward [Jane], and was an uncle to many nieces and nephews. His wisdom, guidance and light hearted jokes were a source of strength for those he held dear.
Besides his parents, Martin was predeceased by two brothers, Ronald and Garfield and five sisters, Rose, Marie, Shirley, Alice and Gladys.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, Glace Bay.
There will be a small family graveside ceremony at a future date in Greenwood Cemetery. On line condolences to the family can be expressed at: www.vjmcgillivray.ca
