It is with heavy hearts and beautiful memories that we announce the peaceful passing of Jessena (Zena) Saule née MacLennan on January 7th, 2024, at the age of 101, at her home. Zena was born on May 27, 1922, in Chimney Corner, Nova Scotia, to Simon and Mary Anne MacLennan. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Zena was a kind and gentle woman, known for her loving heart, generous nature, and calm disposition. She was a source of inspiration, teaching her family the values of kindness and demonstrating high integrity, compassion, and utmost generosity. Zena took pride in her Scottish heritage and always maintained a graceful appearance. She was an intelligent woman who embraced change and kept an open mind throughout her life.

She adored and wholeheartedly cherished her family, raising her four daughters with love alongside her husband Marcel. Zena was a relatable mother and grandmother, always putting her family first and selflessly caring for them. She was an inspiration and example to her family, demonstrating love, affection, guidance, and understanding.

Zena was employed at T. Eaton Company in a managerial role for ten years before starting her family. She was a member of the Catholic Women’s League for St. Leonard Parish, the New Waterford Gaelic Society, the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary and volunteered in the Mount Carmel Joy Program.

Zena's life was grounded in her faith and family. She saw the positive in everyone and everything. Her heart was always full of peace, joy, and unconditional love for her family and friends. She had a deep love for both animals and music. She enjoyed all genres of music, but had a particular interest in Scottish folk music. Zena found solace and joy in the melodies and rhythms that connected her to her Scottish roots.

Zena is survived by her four daughters, Lois (Glenn), Karen, Elaine (Robert), and Simone (Mickey), as well as her grandchildren, Andrew, Jeffrey, Alex, Ryan, Kristen, Kyle, Liam, Sean, and cherished great-granddaughter, Drew Jessena. She was predeceased by her parents, Simon and Mary Anne MacLennan, loving husband, Marcel, and siblings, Kaye, Roddie, Annie, Hugh, and Angus.
