Obituary of Joseph Archibald White, New Waterford

It is with sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Joseph White, 62, on Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2024 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.

Born in New Waterford, he was a son of the late Murdock and Annie (MacLellan) White.

In earlier years, Joe worked for Linda Bonnar and the Town of New Waterford Public Works Dept. He was also employed with Curry's Funeral Home in Glace Bay.  Joe was an avid sports fan who faithfully followed the Montreal Canadiens. He loved playing hockey, cards, shuffle board, and darts. His favorite pastime, however, was spending time with his buddies and his travels with Mary. He was also an animal lover who adored his two fur baby cats.

Surviving are the love of his life, Mary Messenger; brothers, Wayne (Cecilia), Bernie (Brenda); sisters, Diane (Bryan), Helen (Art), Eileen and Cathy; special grandson, Noah; nephews, Roger, Gary, John and John Michael; niece, Mary Ann; several friends.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Ed; brothers, Jackie, Freddie, and Terrance; special niece and godchild, Joanne White. 

Cremation has taken place.  A visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 23 from 1 until the time of the service at 2 p.m. all in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. A reception will follow in the funeral home reception centre. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery, River Ryan. Donations in his memory may be made to the Nova Scotia SPCA - Cape Breton Shelter.
