Obituary of Michael James MacIntyre, Lower Sackville, N.S.

It is with great sadness, our family announces the passing of our brother, father, uncle and friend, Michael James MacIntyre, age 45 on Saturday, February 24th, 2024, at the Victoria General Hospital after a long battle with Multiple Myeloma Cancer.

Born in Halifax N.S., he was the son of the late Pauline Osborne/MacIntyre.

Michael grew up in Glace Bay, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends, going on trail walks, traveling, he had a great love for animals and most of all enjoyed spending time with his son, Layk.

Michael is survived by and will be missed by his son, Layk Reeve MacIntyre; his sisters, Theresa (Wayne), Angie and Amanda MacIntyre; his nieces and nephews, Tasha, Nick, Emma and Carson along with many aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was predeceased by his beloved mother, Pauline Osborne/MacIntyre and his grandmother, Shirley Gilliam.

Michael graduated from Glace Bay High School in 1998 and went on to join the Canadian Armed Forces where he served on the HMCS Winnipeg. He deployed for 6 months in August 2005 to the Persian Gulf (Arabian Gulf). He had many achievements and certificates while serving with the Military and working at Maritime Hose and Prime Lift.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 4th from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10am on Tuesday, March 5th at Holy Cross Church, Seaview St, Glace Bay followed by a reception in the church hall. Fr. Norman MacPhee presiding.

Interment will be held in St. Mary’s Anglican Cemetery, Maple Avenue, Glace Bay at a later date.
