Myrna and family,
Two of the things I remember and admired about Gussie are that everything he did at Lingan Mine was meticulous and he did it while smiling and joking around with his buddies. I also fondly remember driving by his property on Lingan Road and thinking how am I going to make my driveway as shiny as Gussies and my lawn as green and well manicured as his lawn. He set the bar pretty high on everything he did. When I first met Gussie at Lingan Mine more than 40 years ago I liked him right away - he was that kind of guy. No matter where we ran into him his friendly greeting of "howdy neighbour" made us feel good. Please accept our sincere condolences. Steve and Barb Drake

Our hearts are with you all, Myrna, Nadine, Roger & Brady...We will miss Gussie with his jokes, and always looking for a laugh. He was good at that!
I often think of him and remember when sent out a kit for Ray to look after his truck. It had all the cleaning products, wax, etc. I guess Gussie was hoping Ray's truck would get the attention he took pride in lavishing on his own vehicle.
The box contained two very good terry tea towels, that I deemed "too good" for polishing rags, so I moved them to my kitchen. When Gussie was out for a visit, he asked about the kit and soon noticed the towels were missing. Gussie playfully reprimanded me and explained they were the best towels for a good shine. To this day, the two towels remain in Ray's 'cleaning box'.
Rest in peace, Gussie.

Myrna, Nadine, Roger and Brady;
Out hearts are saddened after hearing of the passing of Uncle Gussie. Uncle Gussie had such an amazing “smile”! He was always so happy, telling stories and giving HUGS. We will never forget our visit when Uncle Gussie drove us all over Cape Breton showing us the places where him and our Mom grew up and going to the Miner’s Museum.
Wishing you all the courage to face the days ahead and loving memories to hold in your heart forever.
RIP Uncle Gussie give Mom a big HUG!

Dear Nadine,Myrna and family.I was sad to read of your loss of Gussie.I always admired him for his immaculate property, I always felt he must have gone over the lawn with a fine-tooth comb.He was so smart, he described to me how he did his own septic systems and I’m sure they were more efficient than any that a contractor could do! He had many happy years watching Brady grow up across the road and was lucky to have your love and devotion to help him when he was unwell.

So sorry for your loss. Gussie was a wonderful person. He always had a story to tell and kept everyone laughing. One of my favourite memories is of our fishing trip and boilup at Cheticamp Lake. As fast as he would put the bait on my hook, I would haul in the fish. I don’t know what he used for bait but the fish loved it, and Gussie sure got a charge out of me catching so many fish.
Cherish your beautiful memories and he will always be with you. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
Love.
Ann
