Obituary of Augustus Henry Moore, River Ryan

With broken hearts, we the family of Augustus Henry Moore (Gussie) announce his peaceful passing at Harbourstone Enhanced Care on Sunday, February 25, 2024, with his loving daughter, Nadine at his side.

Born in New Waterford on March 25, 1946, Gussie was the youngest child of the late Thomas and Catherine “Katie” (Young) Moore of Lingan.

Gussie grew up on Roaches Rd., Lingan. In 1969, he married the love of his life and wife of 54 years, Myrna (Nelson) Moore. They had a wonderful life filled with love and laughter. Gussie was a very hard worker and was very proud of the home he built for his family on Lingan Road. Gussie enjoyed the outdoors. He loved to be outside working around his property. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and, in 1969, was so proud of his trophy deer which has 33 points~ a thrill of a lifetime. Gussie always had beagles and enjoyed training them as pups and was always so proud when they started hunting rabbits. He and his son-in-law, Roger, enjoyed their hunting trips together. Also, he enjoyed many adventures on his ATV with family and friends.

Gussie is survived by his wife, Myrna; daughter, Nadine(Roger) Rose and his grandson, Brady, whom he loved dearly. Having Brady just across the road meant they got to spend so much time together. Poppy taught him how to cast a fishing line, hit a ball, and ride an ATV. Family meant everything to Gussie and he meant everything to us. He is also survived by his sister, Hazel Hamilton, Ontario, and several nieces and nephews.

Gussie was predeceased by his parents; sisters, Annie Rigby, Katie Dornig, Geraldine Ferguson, and Shirley Moore. Also by his brothers, Charlie and Tommy.

We wish to express our sincere thanks to the staff of Wentworth Court, Harbourstone Enhanced Care. Our family will be forever grateful to all the caregivers and nursing staff for their many acts of kindness and love given during Gussie’s stay. Thank you for your care and comfort through Gussies’s illness and passing. Your support to our family will never be forgotten.

In keeping with Gussie’s wishes, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 1, at 3:00 p.m. in V.J McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford with Rev. Duncan Roach officiating. A reception will follow in the funeral home reception centre. Interment will take place in Union Grove Cemetery, Scotchtown, at a later date.
