My condolences to Wanda and the Webb family. I always looked forward to meeting Gordie, he was one of a kind. He liked to tell the story, and it is true, when I drove, I believe Miss Islewood against his horse Blossoms Last. My horse was supposedly the best in the race and the favourite. Before the race Gordie approaches me and asks if I’m going to the front which I say yes. Then he said good because Blossom will sit second , your horse will go a good half and I’ll win the race. Being young and cocky I said in your dreams you just stay behind me if you can and you will finish second. Well Blossom stayed behind me and at the top of the stretch blew by me like I was stopped. At the paddock after the race he is laughing and says I told you. He reminded me of that race whenever I met him, but always in good fun, there was not a malicious bone in Gordie’s body. I’m sorry to hear of his passing, I looked forward to the banter whenever he came home.
