Obituary of Marie Carol Frances McCarthy, New Victoria

Marie Carol Francis McCarthy, 84,of River Ryan passed away peacefully Sept. 15 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital surrounded by family.

Born in New Waterford, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Margaret (Kavanaugh) McCarthy.

She was a member of the Parish Church of St. Leonard, formerly Mount Carmel Parish. Surviving are her daughter, Rosemary Nearing; grandson, Jeffery Hogan, River Ryan; granddaughters, Candace Lee, Sydney, Deborah Hogan, New Waterford; great-granddaughter, Alexis Hogan, New Waterford; her beloved dog, "Scruff"; brothers, Leo, Edmonton, Martin (Rose), Sydney; sisters, Noel, Toronto, Eileen Smith, Scotchtown, Helen Hery, Edmonton; sisters-in-law, Ethel, Pat, and Zina and many nieces and nephews.

Marie enjoyed going to Karaoke, playing cards and in her younger years, bowling. She touched so many with her kindness and generosity, easing burdens of family, friends and charities after her recent Lotto jackpot win. Her one wish for herself was to purchase her '59 Cadillac DeVille.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by brothers, Byron in infancy and Eddie in childhood; Edward, Mike, Robert, Eddie, and Basil; sisters, Georgina and Marcella.

As per her wishes, there will be no visitation or flowers. Cremation has taken place under the care and guidance of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, New Waterford. A Funeral Mass of celebration will be held on Friday, Sept. 20, 2024 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Father Godwin Obike officiating. A reception will follow at the Army, Navy, Air Force, Unit 217, New Waterford.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the local SPCA in her memory.
