It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Edward (Eddie) Murrant, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. 


Eddie was born on January 30, 1933, in his beautiful home in Port Morien. He passed away peacefully on December 28, 2024, surrounded by the love of his family.


Eddie is survived by his devoted wife, Blanche (Waye), the love of his life, with whom he shared 67 beautiful years of marriage.


He leaves behind three daughters who brought him immense pride, Margot (Steven) O’Leary, Gina (Steve) Deveaux, and Shauna (Jerome) Kelly. Eddie was the cherished grandfather of Kendra (Jamie), Jordan (Melanie), Kurtis, Brooke, Breagh, and Bryden, and the adored great-grandfather of Sadie, Cooper, Georgia, and Lily. Eddie is also lovingly remembered by his sister-in-law, Sandra (Nelson) and many nieces and nephews. 


He was the last surviving member of his immediate family and was predeceased by his brothers Stanley (Carol), Jimmy (Linda), and Nelson Murrant, and his sisters Ella (Cleve) Stoddard and Joyce (Albert) Hooper. He was also predeceased by his brother-in-law, Sam Waye, and sister-in-law, Ada.


Eddie was a dedicated elder of Knox United Church, long standing member of the Thistle Masonic Lodge #36 and a proud member of the Shriners.


Eddie’s work ethic and dedication were evident throughout his career as a meat cutter. He took pride in his work, starting with Shores’ stores in Port Morien and Glace Bay, and later as Manager of the Meat Departments at Dominion stores in Halifax, PEI, and Sydney.


A true gentleman in every sense, Eddie was known for his unwavering kindness, attentive listening, and gratitude for life’s blessings. He made everyone who knew him feel valued and appreciated.


Cremation has taken place. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during the visitation on Saturday, January 4, 2025, from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. 


The funeral service will be held on Sunday, January 5, 2025, at 3:00 pm at Glace Bay United Church (formerly Warden United Church), 44 Fifth Street, Glace Bay followed by a reception. Rev. Dana Feltmate presiding.


The Masonic Lodge will hold a service at 2:45 p.m. the day of the funeral.
