Obituary of Heather Ann Tonary, New Waterford

The family of Heather Ann Tonary regrets to announce her passing on July 4, 2017 at New Waterford Consolidated Hospital after a courageous battle.

Heather was born March 13,1951 in New Waterford, N.S. to the late David and Sarah Tonary. She was also predeceased by her eldest brother, James. 

Heather loved to spend her time fishing in Iona and making her daily trips to 'Timmies'. Heather also enjoyed her yearly trip to Texas visiting with her brother, David and her Texas family. She was a loving and caring person, devoted mother, grandmother, sister and friend, always thinking of others first. "To know her was to love her".

Heather leaves to cherish her memory, her daughters, Sarah Mae (Todd) and Lindsay; grandchildren, Rowen and Tristan; brothers, Michael (Sandra), twin brother, Fr. David, msf, John (Myrna), Robert (Sharon); sister-in-law, Olive Tonary, also nieces and nephews. 

Visitation will take place on Thursday, July 6, 2017 from 2-4 and 7- 9 pm at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration will be held on Friday, July 7, 2017 at 10 am in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Father Ray Huntley and Father David Tonary officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery, River Ryan, with a luncheon to follow at St. Leonard's Hall, Convent Street, New Waterford. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice/Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton or a charity of one's choice.
