Dear Marilyn and Family,
It was with profound shock and sadness that Cathy and I learned of Steve's passing upon our return from Alberta. Please accept our sincere condolences for your devastating loss. In his roles as Superintendent of Schools in Glace Bay and as a valuable member of the Glace Bay District Retired Teachers Organization, I always appreciated Steve's cheerful, positive personality. He was extremely supportive and quick to volunteer when assistance was required. He had my utmost respect and will be greatly missed at our RTO meetings. I know his passing will leave a gaping, emotional hole in all of your lives, but with mutual love and support, I pray that you will find the strength to move forward by finding solace in the memory of such a truly caring individual.

I would guess that the person who was your very first reference on your very first resume holds a special place in your life and I can only imagine the number of my friends that can say the same. I doubt if I would ever meet anyone who had a bad thing to say about this fine gentleman. Definitely a positive influence on me and I'm sure many others would echo these sentiments. So sorry for your loss.

To the family of Steve "Doodie" Johnston Campbell,
Please be assured of our prayers, and a Mass offered for the happy repose of Steve's soul. We were classmates, starting in the Primary class at Park St. School in 1942. In 1948 we were cast as Mr. and Mrs. Kris Kringle, a play directed by Sister Mary Raphael, performed at the L.O.C. Hall. In grade three, we received the highest aggregate prize, equally merited. I still have the detailed envelope (minus the $2.50). Soooo many memories of childhood and school years with Villa Nova, Red Bridge and Park Lane childrenm, all one big wholesome and happy family. Most of us stayed in contact over the years.
During our many summers at the "Old Glebe" on King's Ave., we would often attend weekday morning Mass at Holy Cross parish and it was always a pleasure to see Steve there.
We always have kind thoughts and prayers for Roddie and Wick, especially on their anniversaries, April 15 and April 5. Their parents were the salt of the earth and their goodness was relected in their three very special sons.
We send our prayers and deepest sympathy to Steve's family and many friends who mourn his loss.
Mrs. Ellen Marie (Fortune) Vanneste, husband Cesar and family. Kanata, Ontario.

Marilyn and family. We were saddened to read that Steve has passed. I met Steve at Central office in Ashby when I went there as secretary to Frank Angot and later Eddie Davis. Steve was a wonderful, kind person, we had many great chats at break and lunch time. Whenever we ran into Steve after he retired, he would always stop to chat with us. He always asked about our daughters. A genuine kind gentleman. The last time we saw Steve he was volunteering at Glace Bay hospital and as usual he stopped to say hello and we were happy to see him. May God give you strength at this sad time and may Steve Rest In Peace. God Bless

It Is with great sadness to hear of the death of Stephen Campbell, we can not find the words to express our admiration, respect and thanks, to the perfect example of a professional instructor, mentor, and suporter in the education program. I like many others have succeeded because of "Mr. Campbell's" encouragement that faith and belief in ones self , along with dedication and hard work you can accomplish success.
Stephen certainly left his part of the world in better shape . Our condolences to all his family and friends. He left you with a lot to be proud of.

Bless you and I hope that your great memories will bring you peace. My big memory of your Dad was as a student in the famous 11-7 class. For some reason this class was a problem for every single teacher who attempted to teach this class. The one exception was your father. I believe it was all about respect. Every single student in the class respected and was eager to learn from Mr. Campbell. He was gentle, kind and involved but was not to be disrespected. This is not about what you say or do , but rather about who you are. He was so worthy of this respect and without discussing it openly, we all knew it. The gentle giant . Annette Mac Gillivray
